Pit Crew

As a pit crew volunteer, you will help move front ensemble instruments.

As a pit crew volunteer, you will help move front ensemble instruments—such as the drum kit, xylophones, marimbas, synthesizers—and related equipment like microphone stands and speakers from the trucks to the field for football games, or from the trucks through warm-up and onto the field for competitions.

You will watch the performance from the sidelines, which many consider the best view in the house. After the show, you will assist students in moving their instruments and equipment off the field and back to the trucks.

For football games, volunteers typically meet at the end of the first quarter to help move equipment onto the track, and then return after the performance to help clear the field.

For competitions, volunteers usually meet at the trucks about 30 minutes before students head to warm-up (approximately 90 minutes before performance time). Your role concludes after the performance once everything is returned to the trucks.

Many pit crew volunteers choose to stay with the group during warm-up at competitions, which offers a great opportunity to see how students prepare for their performance.

Fingerprinting is not required for this role.
